Rhinoplasty procedure

A rhinoplasty procedure will take about 1 hour and is carried out under a general anaesthetic.
Aesthetic and plastic surgeon Dr Roman Merle will make incisions that are concealed in the nostril and can reshape the bone and cartilage that form the solid structure of the nose. He can reduce the size of a nose that is too wide, shorten a nose that is too long, remove bumps, straighten a nose or adjust the tip. Dr Merle can also perform a tissue graft (bone and cartilage) to fill in a dent or to improve the shape of the tip of the nose. If there are any breathing issues linked to an anomaly with or deviation of the nasal septum, or a hypertrophy of the bony structures inside the nasal partition (concha), Dr Merle will be able to treat these at the same time. Self-dissolving sutures are used to close incisions and cotton plugs are placed in the nasal cavities. A protective and supporting splint is moulded and placed over the nose.

After the procedure, you may be able to leave the hospital on the same day or, in some cases, you may have to stay in for 24 hours.

The cost of a rhinoplasty procedure performed in Antibes by aesthetic and plastic surgeon Doctor Roman Merle, is €1500 and very occasionally, may be reimbursed by Social Security.
Dr Merle may decide that your nose can be reshaped without surgery: for example, he could propose a medical rhinoplasty using injected hyaluronic acid to correct certain imperfections.

What to expect following a rhinoplasty procedure

The main discomfort after surgery is caused by the inability to breathe through the nose due to the cotton plugs. It is unusual to feel pain. Some swelling and bruising can appear around the nose and eyes: it is advisable not to go in the sun whilst you have any bruising. Dr Roman Merle will be able to prescribe appropriate topical medication to help reduce any discomfort.

The cotton plugs are removed after just a few days and the splint, after 10 days. Practicing sport is not advised for 2 weeks.

The final result will be visible from 6 months following the operation, when the nasal mucosa membranes are no longer swollen. Rhinoplasty corrections are permanent.

Can other operations be combined with a rhinoplasty procedure?

Soit directement derrière la glande, en avant des muscles pectoraux
(positionnement prémusculaire)

Soit plus profondément, en arrière des muscles pectoraux
(positionnement rétromusculaire)

A rhinoplasty procedure can be combined with other facial treatments, like cosmetic surgery on the chin (genioplasty) to provide better overall balance to the facial features. In some cases, a reshaping of the nose can be achieved without surgery, using hyaluronic acid injections instead: Dr Merle can provide this option if deemed appropriate.
