Aesthetic and plastic surgeon Doctor Roman Merle performs genioplasty procedures in Antibes. This procedure aims to correct and reshape the chin and provide a better balance between the facial features.

When is a genioplasty appropriate?

A genioplasty is designed to correct or reshape the profile of the chin and to obtain better harmony between facial features. Typical issues involve a chin that is receding or weak, or the opposite, a protruding or jutting out chin. After a very thorough analysis of the overall facial structure, the appropriate surgical route is determined: reshaping the bone structure or inserting an implant. Aesthetic and plastic surgeon Dr Merle can help to correct these kinds of imperfections and obtain a harmonious result, while meeting your expectations and respecting your individuality. A genioplasty procedure can be performed from the age of 18 years.

Genioplasty procdure

A genioplasty procedure will normally last around 1 hour and is carried out under a general anaesthetic.
Dr Roman Merle will make an incision inside the mouth under the lower lip: there are no visible scars. To correct the shape of the chin, Dr Merle will cut through the bone in the jaw (osteotomy) and the segment is then moved into its new position (as per the consultation, prior to the operation). This is then held in place with screws or small metal plates (osteosynthesis). In cases where a thin chin needs more volume, Dr Merle may decide to take a small section of bone either from the skull or the hip to graft onto the chin. He may in other cases decide to insert a silicon chin implant to alter the shape and to increase the size of the chin.
Self-dissolving stitches are used. A splint or support will be put in place for strengthening purposes. After surgery you will be in hospital over night and possibly for up to 48 hours.
The cost of a genioplasty procedure performed in Antibes by aesthetic and plastic surgeon Doctor Roman Merle, is €XXXX and only very occasionally may be reimbursed by Social Security.

What to expect following a genioplasty procedure ?

After surgery some light bleeding from the mouth will often occur. You may feel some slight discomfort and a reduction in the level of sensitivity in the chin. Swelling or bruising on the lips and neck can also sometimes happen. Dr Roman Merle will be able to prescribe appropriate treatment(s), especially to improve oral hygiene, to help reduce any discomfort.
The splint is removed after about a fortnight. It is advisable to reduce social activities for 2 weeks.
The final result will be visible from 6 months following the operation, but real change can be noticed as early as 2 or 3 months. Genioplasty corrections are permanent.

Can other operations be combined with a genioplasty procedure ?

Soit directement derrière la glande, en avant des muscles pectoraux
(positionnement prémusculaire)

Soit plus profondément, en arrière des muscles pectoraux
(positionnement rétromusculaire)

A genioplasty procedure can be combined with a rhinoplasty procedure or an operation on the jaws to improve the profile of the chin.
In some cases, an improvement in the look of the chin can be achieved without surgery, using injections of hyaluronic acid (medical genioplasty) or of fat (lipofilling genioplasty): Dr Merle can provide such an option if deemed appropriate.
